About the inaugural ‘Battle of Brisbane’ for Young Swimmers
Swimming Wide Bay is excited to announce a significant change in the development pathway for our 9-12 year old swimmers. In response to evolving priorities and the pursuit of enhanced competitive experiences, the decision has been made to retire the Patron Shield event. In its place, we proudly introduce the new ‘Battle of Brisbane’ Development and Competition Day.
Recognizing Brisbane’s rich pool of young swimming talent, we believe this new alignment will provide our swimmers with invaluable exposure and competition. The event will feature a thrilling mix of individual and relay events, pitting three formidable Brisbane teams against Wide Bay’s best 9-12 year old swimmers. This exciting day will culminate in a head-to-head battle in the pool, with the victorious team taking home the prestigious Battle of Brisbane Trophy.
In addition to the competitive events, parents are invited to attend a special session focused on activation and nutrition for their elite swimmers. This educational component aims to support the holistic development of our young athletes.

- Event Location: Somerville House Aquatic Centre & Sports Hall, 4 Stephens Rd, South Brisbane
Team selection is based on times swam between 1 May 2023 – 28 July 2024. Relays are medley relays and the fastest combination of swimmers in each age group.
We are thrilled about this new chapter for our young swimmers and look forward to a day of high-energy competition and community engagement.
